Concert can't find nodes on the system

Troubleshooting some issues with the network at our local theatre.  We had an Element console that was finally put to pasture between shows and replaced it with an Ion XE 20.  We installed the console this weekend and having some issues connecting to some of the devices on the network.  We plugged it in, set it up at least somewhat correctly, and had control of most of the nodes, the sensor racks, and the systems running the various wall panels throughout the venue.

There were 2 nodes, however, that we are not able to connect with.  These were of a different style/model, and neither worked.  We did call tech support yesterday as we were in tech and didn't have control of 2 of the electrics on stage.  Unfortunately we were not able to get the issue resolved so asking here before I call for support again later today.

Below are pictures of the 2 nodes.  We have tried to find them in Concert, but they do not show up.  Any suggestions on what we can do next?  We have checked cabling (they worked with the Element right before we disconnected it to put in the XE, and it is 2 of them on completely independent lines, which we checked), the fixtures are powered and patched correctly, etc...  We have unplugged and plugged back in everything that we can think of.

Thank You!

  • It would be helpful to know what was tried while you were on the phone with tech support, and where you left off troubleshooting.  Honestly, phone support is your most likely path to success here.

That being said, this may be a software version and/or control protocol issue.

Were you able to configure these nodes from the Element before?  Using Concert?  GCE? NCE?  What software version on whatever config program you used?  Compare to version on the ION XE.

If you put the Element back in the system, do these 2 nodes work again?

If so, compare the active output protocols between the 2 consoles.  If there's any difference, that is likely your problem.

  • Really just trying to figure out what these older nodes are (the part number is not giving me much info) and what the overall suggestions would be.  I did call and talk to someone today and we have a plan worked out to try to troubleshoot the problem, but I was looking here before I called.

  • Glad you've got a plan in place!

It looks like you have a one port Net 3 Gateway.

The first places I'd be looking at are:

software version compatibility issue between the gateway firmware and the Concert version installed on ION XE

    Or

Network address issues.  Depending on your network and console configuration, it's possible you've set your ip address and subnet outside of the subnet the nodes are set to.  Or potentially the console had DHCP server active and re-set the IP on all nodes except these two, which may have been set to a static ip.
