Ignore MIDI active sense signal

On a show with lighting triggered from a keyboard via MIDI we are receiving a constant stream of active sense MIDI from the keyboard. Is there a way to a: tell the desk (a Gio)  to ignore active sensing or b: set the response MIDI gateway to filter out active sensing?

  • There is not currently a way for the Response MIDI Gateway or the Gio to ignore that message.  I have heard of other users adding a MIDI filter inline that strips out that Active Sensing message.  MIDI Solutions is a brand that makes many products that interact with MIDI, and they may have a product that does this.

May I ask how the active sense message is affecting your Gio?

  • I had a feeling this would be the case. Thanks for letting me know.

I know an active sense message shouldn’t affect anything because it’s a really small piece of information but it seems to create a lag on the response of the desk.

Also, I am just freelance prod lx for the show, I am currently asking the show chief for more information about the issue to get a clearer picture of what’s going on.
