Dumb MIDI question about network MSC

Hi, this is a really simple and dopey MIDI quesion. I'm trying to receive MSC commands from a QLab machine which is plugged into a Response MIDI gateway, which is then plugged into our lighting control network.

I want to be sure I have this set up right. The gateway is set with Rx set to ID 1, and Tx is set to ID 2. I have our Gio@5 set as Rx ID 2. Is this correct, that is, the Rx device ID is the same as the Tx ID of the gateway that is sending the MSC data?

Also, if I AM receiving the MSC data, is there any indicator on the Gio that will let me know that I'm getting MIDI data, or that the board acknowledges the gateway?

  • Hello everyone,

I think I had it set up right, though I don't know for sure. The audio department switched to sending OSC to me, and that still didn't work. We finally found out that they were using UDP instead of TCP. I know UDP is one way, and I suppose that OSC needs an acknowledgment from the target? Anyway, it works and they are triggering the specified cues on MY Gio@5 when necessary.

I was eventually able to find that I could see the gateway on the network using the About key, and then the About System soft key. I can see that I have MIDI (or OSC, or SMPTE or whatever protocol) active at the top of the PSD, but am unsure about actually showing that I am receiving triggers aside from timecode on any screen.
