CFL Dimming

In the Wiki article, "fluorescent dimming" it says "However, dimming performance is poor. Even "Dimmable" versions of the integrated CFL do not provide smooth dimming through a wide range."  Does this mean regular non-dimmable CFL's can be used with Sensor dimmers, assuming the 100 hour burn in and proper profile are used?  I am willing to accept poor dimming performance, but I don't want to damage the dimmers or create a hazard with the bulb

    Non-dimmable means don't even think about it no matter who's dimmers or lamps. Same for LEDs.

    I predict that CFLs will soon become very rare. LEDs are pulling even with them in cost and have far greater potential.

    Just because a Manufacturer will list something as Dimmable, it doesn't necessarily mean that it will dim well. It can be very steppy or uneven, or jump to a higher level before dropping back to a lower dimmed level before it would actually start to fade up or down.

    "Dimmable" in quotes just means it is supposed to be dimmable, but while they change light output level, the performance of the fixture may not be exactly what you would consider to be an acceptable dimming performance, either in range of dimming, smoothness or other concerns.

    You can be sure that If they don't list it as "dimmable",  you shouldn't put it on a dimmer.
