Reasons/Advantages to Upgrading Rack from CEM Classic to CEM3

Good morning All,

I'm looking for knowledge from people smarter than me on the subject. I'm a volunteer at a community theater and we've got a fairly old SR-48 rack. It appears to be running a CEM Classic controller.

Because of the racks age and the status of the CEM Classic I'm investigating having the rack upgraded to a CEM3.

So my question for all of you is... What advantages / improvements does upgrading to a CEM3 controller gain me?

The main ones for me are upgrading to current product and no restrictions on what modules I can use. What else features do I gain?

thanks in advance

Robert

  • Sensor3 + CEM3 Upgrade adds
       - to DMX control, the possibility of network control through sACN,
       - configuration and error reporting (when a Net3 Conductor is present) in Concert Software
       - configuration and error reporting in Eos Software (any console or Nomad)
       - Error messaging in form of Email/SMS when Net3 Conductor
       - spare parts availability for a longer time period
       - extending life and usage of Rack longer
       - plethora of more modules like ThruRelay/Power Modules or ELV Modules

    Hope that helps!

  • The single biggest thing you will get is turning your sensor rack into a networked device that can support modern consoles and infrastructure without the need for a gateway. However, be aware that if you transition from DMX to sACN, you may need to replace your existing DMA wiring with Catagory cable and add a network switch to your system. Neither of these is prohibitively expensive (especially with all the other advantages Corey mentioned), but it does need to be taken into consideration when calculating costs.
