Dimmer Modules shows MODULES_OVERTEMP

HI to all,

I've a question about this error, happening on 1 rack among 3. ESR36 SENSOR+ racks composed with ED15AFR and ED25AFR. Some modules get the same error, overtemp.

This error can appear only if airflow problems occur, or can appear if there is a default on 1 module inside the rack?

Thanks for your help

David

  • Hi David

what version of CEM+ is running here?

  • Hi Corey,

I don't get the exact version but for sure 3.1.XX. Dual processor on each 3 racks installed this summer

  • Each Module in the Powercube has a temperature sensor, and when its too hot, the module will send an error and shut down.

This error does not respond directly to no error flow, but logically, if there is no air flow, then the modules will get hotter.

If you swap the module in the rack, the error should follow the module? I would make sure that the rack has good airflow, and the temperature

is cool, and if the error persists, then the modules prolly have a faulty temp sensor inside and should be sent in for repair/return.

  • This may be caused by dirt in the module(s) blocking the heatsink, so causing the module to overheat.

This won't be reported as an airflow error, as the CEM+ is measuring the airflow through the door (specifically through the CEM+) rather than each module individually.

We recommend vacuuming out the heatsink (right-hand-side) and chokes of the modules in a Sensor or Unison Dimming rack from time to time to prevent dust from building up.

I would recommend giving the rack a good vacuuming in the first instance - modules and door filters - and see if that solves the issue.

  • One other option.  It is possible that this is a bad power cube that is falsely reporting overtemp.  A true overtemp ia rather rare, but can happen.

Overtemp is a bused signal through each signal distro card.  OT also only gets reported if a dimmer is above level zero.  If a dimmer is reporting a false overtemp, it, and all the dimmers underneath it, will report overtemp.  In that specific case, remove the lowest numbered dimmer [highest up in the rack], clear the errors, then bring the dimmers up above level zero and monitor for report of OT again.  If no OT, then you need to replace the bad power cube in the modue you removed and you're ready to go again.
