House Light Stuck On

Hello -

I'm a high school theatre teacher, so bear with me if I'm not using accurate language in my descriptions. Pur auditorium utilizes Paradigm and we have a house light that will not turn off, even if our console (Ion XE) has control. We have a show coming up in a couple of weeks (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow) and it will be a HUGE bummer if we cannot have full blackouts.

I've sought help from my school district maintenance department, but received no help from them. I've tried to power cycle our control processor and I was able to power the light off through the house channels menu on the processor. However, as soon as I turn the house lights off and on again through our paradigm or console, it gets stuck on. The system control box says system ok.

Please help, from an exhausted teacher coming up on tech week.

  • Hi RRcostanzo

To add to Shawn's thoughts.  Certainly call phone support next week and they'll get you taken care of.  Phone support is 24/7, but in this particular case I would call them when you are at the school and onsite.   If you happen to see an ETC Job Number (Usually being with a 15XXXXXX number) on the wall or often written inside the dimmer rack that can help the phone support team find your entire lighting system drawings to help you out.  But if not, name of school and address also works.  We have most system drawings readily available in our system.

As you have an IonXE, if you see a network cable instead of a DMX cable coming out of the back of the console you could look at the following for troubleshooting.  On your Ion XE and look at Tab 37 (sACN view).  Either hold down the TAB button (on the console or on the keyboard) and type 37.  Or do the following and click the
"+" symbol and then open sACN view.

Even more info here:Using the Eos sACN Output Viewer - Electronic Theatre Controls Inc

On this screen if you are using network connections in the lighting system it will show you what value and device is controlling your house lights.  Make sure to know the house light channel number as it's patched or it's dmx/dimmer address.

You will see a screen like this and it can be a good indicator of what device is outputting and keeping control of your hosuelights staying on.

  • Thank you, Chris, especially for the info about checking the sACN menu.
