1st bigger show on jr/remarks

hello everybody,

I am quite new to congo, and used more to the "programmer"-boards, but programming with a congo is a rather nice and easy thing the more you get used to console, and there is still a lot to explore...

I just did the first more complex show (a tv show with limited programming time, allmost everything would reside on masters) on congo jr. and like to  post a few comments.

effects: the new effects on v5 are great and easy to use. but there are some things that troubled me sometimes.

groups: it seems that I can only select groups with names. also they have a different numbering. usually I create groups by just recording them as the first channel number (e.g. group 708 is the ML 708-712 on fohtruss) couldnt see these in the effect creation.

all effects seem to be recorded if you check "record all parameters".  this may cause unwanted results. during programming I constantly jump back and forth, rehearsing order differs from running order, so I record a basic cue for every show part with record all params checked, for later editing, thus recording different numbers of effects, up to 40 in the end. (you usually do not increase the number of devices during a programming)

would be nice to have the overall timing control of chasers on the U1/U3 encoders....

I was wondering but had no time to try: dymanic templates  have a "ch index" column. does this have an influence on the distribution of the effect?

screens: the recorded screens seem not to remember the scrolled position. also some screens seem not to be recordable (preset tab, master editor...)

client server: we´d have a different operator for followspots / white light on the show.  i`d rather prefer to have possible different masterpages on client/server for this kind of use.

connect a master to masterplayback: there seems to be an issue with this. connecting to a master did not work properly (I had some small sequences with open moves of MLs on masters in go on go mode. go and goto button did not work reliable. sequences had no intensities, just parameters, 1st cue was all params recorded, worked o.k. when I added the cues in the main sequence)

I used the robe700 Mode 2 spots and washes. in template  the zoom parameter was missing, iris labeled strange with a strange default.

thats all I recall for now, thank you for your attention.

  • Hi Michael,

You can record groups as any number you want up to 999.  {#} Record & Group.   To use those groups in the effects editor depends on what mode you are in.  If you are in Palette Mode which is the default, you hold focus on the group cell then push and hold C/Alt & modify to get the drop down list with your groups.  If you are in Absolute Mode, C/Alt & Modify will get you the palette list.

Effects Playbacks are highly specialized channels similar to moving lights.  Recording them in presets follows all rules for recording attributes.  It is helpful when you have created the effect that you want to use to record the effect as a Palette.  That way when you can set the effects to the palette that you want in the base preset for each part of the show.

If you select the Effect Playback, the U1/U3 encoders have all the attributes to control.

I record screens often, I haven't noticed it to be too much of an issue.  The screens always revert back to their view when they were saved, but I haven't ever worried if the scroll was in the same place, so I can't speak to that.  I haven't experienced a problem with the screens not saving some tabs.

Connect a master to a master playback is something that I have tried in older versions of the software with mixed results.  The action macro column helps to make this function a little more predictable.  If I have time, I can get it to work but if I am rushed, I just put a note in the sequence text to remind me to run the master manually.

Is there a way that we can set-up a storage for user modified templates?  I always take time to make sure that my templates are correct, and in fact I am collecting them together in one play file to use as an import library for my use.

    Take care,

    John

  • hello john,

    thanks for your answer.

-groups in effects: maybe an operator mistake, will have a closer look.

-effects playback: maybe palettes are a good idea. I will try. working with multiple effects in different states of programming seems to trouble me, cause I like to try to avoid to have different content saved to one effect-playback in different presets. especially if jumping back and forth, editing, splitting one effect-playback into three and so on, they still need to be reproducable. I will think also about a good numbering system I guess. still I might have a base preset no500 with 36 devices and a base preset no200 with 74 devices, if rec-all-attr is used.

(I liked to have a quick look at preset tab to see by the number of recorded attributes, if there was any unwanted content in the preset)

    - for chase-effects: this is more like a feature request: to have the overall timing control  on the encoders.

    - if I have more devices than fit on the screen, I like to record 2 screens with different scroll positions (for a fast check what each of them is doing, esp. if I do not see them)

-the robe700 mode2 have been changed since 5.0.1, except for the iris default. I did a prepatch with 5.0.0.

well, yes, every  operator is modifiyng templates for his special needs, I think.

but still problems should be reported somewhere for developers and other operators, so the inbuild library becomes as useful as possible. maybe this could be an extra thread in this forum, where also user-developed templates could be shared.

      have a good day,

    michael
