Tips & Tricks

I have created this topic with the hopes that all Congo & Congo Jr. users can share quick tips and tricks on the functionality of the desk. They can be as basic or as difficult as you want. I will go first with a new function in 4.2.0:

To quickly save a new show or update the one you are working on:

Hold C/Alt & hit RECORD this will Save As by holding C/Alt & UPDATE you will overwrite the show you are working on with the new show information.

I hope that this helps, more to come soon!

  • Hi,

I just wanted to share my thoughts about some great features on Congo.

My all time favourite: Channel layouts!
Since I started using channel layouts, I have never wanted to go back to using the "good old" channel screen. A layout is just so much more clear. I draw a channel layout for every show I do on Congo, and often update/tweak the layout during the production.

Phone remote. Very simple, yet powerfull. Works fine for most small-mid size venues. Just plug in a wireless (DECT) phone and you have a remote that will let you set channels to on/off/@level, check+ and check- to go to next/previous channel, run crossfades etc. You can even call Groups from the phone remote. The syntax for it is (group 1 @ full): 1 # * 4 * 3
    Or in more detail: [1 (group number)] [# (point)] [* (shift)] [4 (preset)] [* (shift)] [3 (@Full)].
I also found the perfect phone to use a phone remote. An AEG Polaris Plus. Is small (easy to carry around) and it has backlit buttons and display (needed when focusing in a dark theatre). I've also found that if the phone has a speaker function I always have it on, so I can hear the keypresses. The AEG Polaris Plus is at least available in Finland, don't know about the rest of the world.

Tracklist. It's very powerfull. There is the normal tracklist which will show you the levels of the selected channels in the whole sequence. For moving lights you can also show the attributes in the same way, hold FORMAT and press Focus (or Color/Beam/Wheelkey for parameter). That's a great way of seeing what attributes are recorded in which preset, it gives a great overview.
You can also press TRACK & CH to track thru the whole show. It will show you all of the places the selected channels are recorded in Groups, Presets, Steps, Palettes.

UPDATE & @LEVEL and UPDATE & ATTRIBUTE (Track editing) are also two great functions.

    That's all for now.

  • Hello All, I have another tip/ trick today! So one of my most favorite features of both of the desks is the Mute & Solo functions. For Live busking style shows this is awesome! Mute & Solo both work alot the way a sound console does. Let me explain, when singer is on stage snd you don't want to here the anymore you Mute them, when you only want to hear what one of them is doing you Solo them. First things first the Mute and Solo button can de found in the top right hane corner of Congo under Text and Note, in Jr. they are in the ML display under Misc. Now here is the fun part, lets say for instance that you have a few sequences, or groups, or a presets loaded on a master & maybe you have a sequence playing back in your Main PB. If you were to push and hold Solo while pushing the Playback button all the other intensity information that is not coming from the Main PB will be brought to 0%. If you hold C/atl and hit Solo it will remove the Solo from the Main PB and will return to its previous state. this function works on Master Playbacks as well the same key strokes are executed, you can also Solo more than one thing at a time. Mute does the complete opposite, when holding Mute and selecting any Master or the Main PB, the console will Mute that bit of information to release it it is also done the same way. Well I gotta get back to work.

     Have Fun!!!

  • Hi All,

My new favorite function is track and format+wheelkeys or FCB buttons to see the parameters in the track sheet for selected devices.
