Hi,
I just wanted to share my thoughts about some great features on Congo.
My all time favourite: Channel layouts!
Since I started using channel layouts, I have never wanted to go back to using the "good old" channel screen. A layout is just so much more clear. I draw a channel layout for every show I do on Congo, and often update/tweak the layout during the production.
Phone remote. Very simple, yet powerfull. Works fine for most small-mid size venues. Just plug in a wireless (DECT) phone and you have a remote that will let you set channels to on/off/@level, check+ and check- to go to next/previous channel, run crossfades etc. You can even call Groups from the phone remote. The syntax for it is (group 1 @ full): 1 # * 4 * 3
Or in more detail: [1 (group number)] [# (point)] [* (shift)] [4 (preset)] [* (shift)] [3 (@Full)].
I also found the perfect phone to use a phone remote. An AEG Polaris Plus. Is small (easy to carry around) and it has backlit buttons and display (needed when focusing in a dark theatre). I've also found that if the phone has a speaker function I always have it on, so I can hear the keypresses. The AEG Polaris Plus is at least available in Finland, don't know about the rest of the world.
Tracklist. It's very powerfull. There is the normal tracklist which will show you the levels of the selected channels in the whole sequence. For moving lights you can also show the attributes in the same way, hold FORMAT and press Focus (or Color/Beam/Wheelkey for parameter). That's a great way of seeing what attributes are recorded in which preset, it gives a great overview.
You can also press TRACK & CH to track thru the whole show. It will show you all of the places the selected channels are recorded in Groups, Presets, Steps, Palettes.
UPDATE & @LEVEL and UPDATE & ATTRIBUTE (Track editing) are also two great functions.
That's all for now.
Oskar
