Fixtures brought in via A3d import are not automatically accepting By type data

maybe this is a known bug? or WAD? I have a series of By type channels in my file. They are the only channels that currently exist in patch. I do an A3d import from VW and all the other channels come in, but they don't immediately "suck" in the by type data. I had to select all the CPs, and pick a random channel and then say "at enter" and it then seemed to take in all the by type data for all the channels, in all flavors of palettes.
