SMPTE Question

SMPTE Question:

Setup: 8192 Output RPU driving the rig as the master, GIO running client, ION running backup.

Show Control Gateway for the SMPTE input. Also transmitting MIDI to Watchout.

Occasionally, the time code will not trigger a cue that is at the beginning of the track. For example, song 4 starts at 00:40:00:00 from sound. I've set my time to 00:40:00:05 (to give it a bit to recognize we are receiving code). Sometimes the cue will take, other times it won't. I have tried recreating the issue, but it seems completely inconsistent.

Any thoughts?

  • Generally it is best to allow at least 5-10 seconds for your desk clock to resync. I have a similar setup on a show at the moment with MTC from sound. The desk log was showing on average two seconds to resync to the new time code so was always missing the top of each scene (03:00:00:00). We moved the timestamp to the end of the last scene as opposed to the top of the current scene and all has been well since then. This may not work in your scenario if there is a gap between tracks?

  • What do you have the {Resync Frames} set to in Show Control setup?

It should only take 2-3 frames to sync and I've never had it take over 1 second.

I think if you look Diagnostic's tab you should see the SMPTE starting.

  • Hi Nick,

My resync was set to 2. The diagnostics tab was just showing when it was trying to resync. The timestamps on the first resync line and the last were about 2 seconds apart. It would be really useful to have a timecode log that shows every frame received and any errors.
