Ion basic questions.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and new to the Ion (but familiar with ETC).  I have been watching the DVD of Ion Fundamentals and have come up with a few questions. Can anyone help?

1.) What is the difference between the LIVE TABLE and LIVE CHANNEL format screen that hold channel information?

2.) What does the M/V stand for in the Playback Status Display and what is its function?

3.) The DVD says one Disc 1 in Chapter 10 that a "RATE can be assigned to a percentage of a cue."  The statement suggests to me that I could assign a RATE to portion of a cue... ie: I could have a 10 sec. cue that runs the first 5 seconds normally and then assign a RATE to the last 5 seconds of the cue.  Is this possible? Am I wrong? Is this just bad semantics on the part of the speaker? Can someone explain, the manuel just serves to confuse further.  thank-you

4.) Ok, the big ?.   I was working with stacked cue lists and assigning them to faders. DISPLAY/ SHOW SETTINGS/ FADER CONFIGURATION/ choose a PAGE #/ assign a fader to PLAYBACK/ and map it to CUE LIST 2. ........

No problem except the fader in question then control CUE LIST 3, rather than cue list 2.  Assigning same-fader to cue list 3 then has that fader control cue list 4.

Can anyone help? thank-you!

  • Hi Spark,

    1) Live Table show a table view of your channels giving you more information on fixtures with multiple parameters. It allows you to see each individual parameter and its value. Live Channel view on the other hand show you a tombstone with a summary of the channels parameters. For a simple dimmer you won't see any difference between the 2 displays.

    2) MV is for Moves. You will get one of three values there, L for Live Move, D for Dark Move and + for both Live and Dark Moves.

    3) Rate is applied to the whole cue so [Record] [Cue] X {Rate} 150 [Enter] will put a 150% rate on the cue so all timings will happen 50% faster than specified in the cue.

    4) Playback faders are assigned to playback numbers, not cue lists. Cue lists themselves have a number associated with them. If you double hit [Cue] you will see the cue list editor where you can set the playback associated with your cue list. It's this number you want to assign to a fader. An alternative quicker method is to hit [Cue] X [/] [Enter] and then press both buttons below your fader together, this will map the appropriate playback to your fader for you.

    Hope that's a help,

    Cheers

  • Dear Daniel, many many thanks! I am sure i will come up with some more questions as I learn this board. I hope all answers can be a great as yours. The hardest thing to accept is that there is so much about this board that you can't learn it all at once.-S
