USB Extender possible for Ion Fader Wing?

The DP on my show wants to control several channels of lights from a remote position from the Ion console I'm running. He is insisting on mechanical faders, not something like the iPad app.

One idea I had was to see if anything exists to extend a USB cable and slap a fader wing in front of him.  I can assign channels to the faders on the fly and he can be happy.

Would this work with the Ion's fader wing?  Why not, right?

In general, we do not recommend and can't support any USB extenders for use with fader wings. Your results may vary.

And Sam - your solution would work.  The only caveat is that you would not have control of these channels via the Ion, or have an indication of where the levels are coming from on the console's screens. As long as this is acceptable (and I can imagine a number of cases where this would be), you'd be fine.  They would interact via HTP as long as they're transmitting at the same priority.  However, the Ion's DMX port would only transmit Ion levels - not the gateway's incoming sACN levels.
