Eos Fun Facts

The intent behind this post is to bring to light little known features of Eos and Ion.  The kind of stuff that you wouldn't necessary discover on your own.... that you'd have to read the manual to find (yea, yea) or that someone would have to tell you about.

Maybe you know some you'd like pass along!!

For example, did you know.....

That you can lock out the face panel on the desk by holding down [Clear] & [Escape] .... and unlock it the same way?

  • Hi all...not intending to drag attention away from the Mark-discussion...but another useful function that I have just learned very recently:

Double hitting [ / ] brings up "DMX" in the commandline so you can enter DMX values from 0 to 255 for any parameter...

E.g. Channel [Number] [Tilt] [DMX] [Value] [Enter]

I think this can be useful sometimes..

  • Oh and one more thing I didn't know for a while:

Holding down [ Blind ] & [ any Record Target ] works as a shortcut to get the Blind-(content-) view of anything..So you don't have to double hit the record target and then {Edit} or go via [ Blind ] and then [ any Record Target ] ... saves time and as we all know there is no time when programming ;)

    Cheers from Berlin,

  • wow! thanks matze, two cool new things i learnt today!

  • a macro that one of our guys wrote that is simply awesome - select manual, record only-

    speeds the programing  up

  • Lane, explanation please?  Record only just just manual values.  What is this doing??

    a

  • Anne, first it selects manual changes, then it records only; it just encorperates the two buttons into one.

  • [Record Only]  by definition, records only manual changes, so hitting select manual first is completely redundant. If you hit [Select Manual] [Record Only] [Enter] or just [Record Only] [Enter] the result is *exactly* the same.

  • Just figured this out today and thought it was awesome.

Say you're doing a show with 3 locations and you keep going back and forth. And the designer has scene specific presets that mark at the beginning of each scene.

    Example:

So cues 1-10 are preshow. 1 Marks for scene 1 in an office. Cues 11-67 are in the first scene in an office.

Cue 70 is the blackout. Cues 70-125 then take place in a bedroom.

    Cue 125 is a blackout.

Then cues 130- 175 are back in the office.

The designer wants to record Q 11 to Q 130. When you do it, you have all sort of non-intensity moves in Q 130. If you create a part Q in your transition Q 125, we'll say part 7. You can then say Blind Q 125 Part 7 Channel 1 thru 400 (400 is arbitrary, whatever your last channel is) All NPs Recall from Q130. And you've marked everything you need to get back into the office with no live moves...

I was doing Macros etc. to select all my channels with non-intensity parameters for awhile. I feel like I should've realized I could select all channels non-intensity parameters to make big moves like this. It is great. Another reason to love the All NPs key as well as {Recall From} : )

  • Another way, Alex, would be to flag your Q125 as a Mark Cue: Cue 125 Mark Enter. As you're in blackout, just use [Recall From][Cue][1][1][Enter] to get the state of Cue 11 back onstage as manual levels - if you weren't in a blackout, you could append [Rem Dim]. Then use [Select Active][Mark][Enter] to mark all of these moves in Q125.

This will give you what is essentially a duplicate of Cue 11 in Cue 125, but only the NP moves/marks that need to be there.

  • It's old, but did you know this(e.g. at Submaster):

to see the level press and hold [Data]:

    Hi Anne & ChaosBob,

    <Select Manual - Record only> as a Macro

I started using this because coming from a Hog or Maxxyz background I've grown accustom to having only those values (programmer values) I've affected recorded into the cue, sub etc not the whole output. i.e. <record> It was the quickest way I could get the EOS to do this.

I don't even use the Record button anymore ;-p

Let me elaborate on this... If I build a large cue and have selected and manipulated multiple groups, and channels, fixtures, etc etc. The "Select Manual, Record Only" is gives me a quick way to reselect only those fixtures I've manipulated and then filter record quickly into the cue or sub I choose.

On the Maxxyz this can be accomplished by hitting < . > <Enter> <record> to select all active fixtures in the programmer

I do a lot of layered cue stack programming for busking purposes this enables me to not worry about whether or not I'm recording the fixtures or information I want into a particular Q list sub etc.

    Another lil trick:

Also from the Maxxyz & Hog world I am used to using the "clear" button to have those fixtures that I've affected to return to their previous state.

The quick solution to this is to set default **sneak time to '0'

Then every time I use <Sneak-Enter> they return to their previous state without having to send a move command.

Also a handy way to clear out particular values to some of the fixtures

Example: select 2 different groups @ full, select one group, put in Blue. Select another group put in red... I decide don't want the 1st group in blue but to return to the color you were previously in, yet maintain the intensity value.

    Group 1+2 @ Full

    Group 1 Blue

    Group 2 Red

    Group 1 Color Sneak enter

<Select Manual - Record Only>  <Cue/Sub> <XX> which reselects everybody for record and viola showtime!

**If you need to actually sneak something in during a show in time <Group> <sneak><time> <XX> <enter>.

    Thanks,

    JoeMac

  • Here's something that I just stumbled on today.  It may be old hat but You can use color pallets with Highlight. This allows you to keep track of where all your movers  are while adjusting the focus on the highlighted one.  Here is the process.

First write a Preset with all you movers at full and in open white and make it you highlight preset (in setup).

Then grab the group of movers that you want to highlight and set them to full

    1. Group 97 @ full *

Then set them to a dark color.

    2. Group 97 Color Pallet 3. (in my case dark blue)

    Then highlight them.

    3. Group 97 Highlight *

They will all turn back to Open White until the first hit of the Next button .

The first Highlighted channel will remain Open white but the rest of the lamps will turn the color that you set them at in step 2 above. Each hit of the next button will turn the next lamp Open white and the rest blue. .

It sure made my life less confusing when it came to updating focus pallets.

  • Very True Dano, we usually use a sub to turn the movers blue so that we don't have to worry about restoring the color after finished highlighting.
