I'm thinking of adding an aRFR to my system. I would like to know if anyone has recommendations for a WAP that I should consider buying, or ones that I should avoid. Is a basic unit sufficient, or do I need a more advanced unit?
Thank you,
-Gregg

The most reliable one I've ever used is a D-Link DAP-2590. It's POE, which is convenient, and has a great range with reliable connection. It's also expensive. For simple, reliable service the most important thing is just to get an actual WAP, not a wireless router. A wireless router will often work, but it requires more set up and management and they are prone to being "too smart" when it comes to handling connections. The lease reliable I have ever encountered is an Apple Airport Express. The Apple routers have settings to function like a WAP, but I have always had trouble getting those settings to function as advertised.
I've had good luck with using inexpensive wireless routers. However, there are set up concerns. You also need to be aware of IP address, since ETC uses the private 10. address by default. See the IP address wiki at : http://community.etcconnect.com/wikis/products/knowledgebase-etc-network-ip-addresses.aspx
I let the router act as a DHCP server- but thats because the only item on the network is the ION console. That way, anyone that has either irfr or arfr can join the network (once we give them the password) and get a valid IP adress to allow then to connect to the console. We use old school DMX to communicate with out non ETC dimmer rack. Also, we have small venues so the inexpenisve wireless routers have good enough coverage.
Not sure if that helps or not.

My biggest concern is coverage, the WAP will be in the booth at the back of the house. I don't think I will have a problem from the stage, but I may have some issues from the spot booth.
