ETC Gio Issues/Help

Hi All

I have recently had the opportunity to use one of the new Gio consoles and am having an issue with DMX.

The Console is brand new out of the box

At first the 2 DMX ports on the back of the console were working fine. Then oddly and whilst not touching the console the dmx seemed to be lost and the entire rig came on and started flickering ( only the conventionals were doing this) Some how it stopped not sure exactly how.

However today when setting up the dmx gateway , again not touching the console the same thing happened. The lights all to ramped on to full, Only this time I cant seem to get it to stop. The weird thing is when it is running through the gateway vie ethernet it works fine, as soon as you put universe 1 into the DMX port on the console theres flickering.

If anyone has any idea how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated. the idea is to have universes 1 & 2 from the ports on the console and 3-6 through the gateway.

Thanks in advance!

Ben

  • Hey Ben,

What type of dimmers are you trying to control?? I have seen that sometimes DMX out of the back of the Ion causes other manufacturers dimmers to flicker, but plugging it into a gateway resolves this issue. This is probably the same thing you are seeing with Gio. A little bit more information about what you are trying to control would be helpful.

    to give more details...

For the first day of use with only using the DMX ports on the console all was mostly fine with only one issue where the DMX seemed to loose its brains however it found itself and was fine after that for the next few days.

It was then after a few days where it did the same thing only this time it cant seem to find its brains. To solve this i set up the net3 gateway and have ports 1-4 acting as universes 1-4 and ports 1&2 on the console acting as universes 5 & 6 so far it is now stage with all types of fixtures (static, moving and LED)

The system is a little complex in terms of set up. Every DMX port runs through an LSC DMXChange from here it is distributed to the dimmer room and every port in the building. Every port in the building is also opto isolated.

We are using at the least 12 year old Jands HP12  Dimmers.

All cables connected are so far all fine and have been tested.

The console is running 1.9.12 however we also have a fader wing and this does not work either

I hope this helps just to add in the process all dimmers have been hard reset as well as the dmxchange as well as bypassing the dmxchange.

My personal suspicion is that there may be a bug in the software/firmware as the fader wing also does not work but am hesitant to reinstall this given it is brand new and should have the latest versions.

I should also add we also have an EOS as a back up at the moment and dmx speeds have so far not been an issue even when set at maximum and with the curent system running through the net3 gateway maximum is also fine.
