query & group

i was wondering, how i would use Group with the Query command. haven't found a way yet and think that should be possible (or am i the only one?). but while trying i found this:

Query, Group. Group aborts the open query command and posts Group including the diamond to the comman line like a self-terminating command. but somehow it's not really terminated: when i press Query again, i get an error because Group Query is not recognized. so Query re-opened the command line. hm...

but anyways, i consider that to be a minor glitch, but would love to see queriable (is that a word?) groups very much!

  • If you are trying to use "Group" to narrow your query selection, this can be done by entering [Group] first:

    [Group] 1 [Query] {Is In} [Color Palette] 2 [Enter] 

    So if channels 1-20 are all in two Color Palettes (the even channels are in CP 1 and the odd channels are in CP 2. And if Group 1 = channels 1-10, the above syntax will select channels 1+3+5+7+9.

    If you're trying todo something else, post back and maybe someone can help figure out how to achieve the desired result.

    thanks for your reply. i was trying to find channels, that are common to two groups. i wanted to do Query Group 1 is in Group 2. i'm not in front of a console right now, but since Query followed by Group is illegal, i guess Group 1 Query is in Group 2 won't work either. i haven't found a way yet to use Group _inside_ a query command...

    I understand. No, you're right, you can't use that syntax. But here's a kludgy workaround:

    [Group] 1 [+] [Group] 2 [@] 0 [Enter] 

    [Group] 1 [-] [Group] 2 [@] FL [Enter] 

    [Group] 1 [Query] [@] [0] [Enter] 

    The selected channels are in both groups.

    It would be nice to be able to able to use [Group] within query.
