How to create a custom fixture for an RGB Cyc?

Thank you for taking the time to help me.

Basically I have a RGB cyc setup to mix with, but not LED.  I want to be able to use the built in color picker wheel to design with my cyc.

Is it possible, and how, to create a fixture that would allow me to have intensities for 3 colors and also be able to define what those colors are (roscolux gels) to make the color picker accurate?

  • It isn't possible to make a fixture with Gel A + B + C and use the picker to pick colour F.

I would suggest patching the dimmers as generic RGB or RGBW (if you have 4 cells with O/W) LED fixtures and then just pick the colour you want from the colour picker and then adjust it using the Hue and Saturation encoders.

If working offline just select the colour from the picker and record this as a new colour palette 'Colour F' and store this  referenced palette in the cue. Then once you have the units in the theatre you can just adjust the palettes in one go and your cues will be as expected (hopefully). Even if doing this live you want to store your colours into palettes.

    Hope this helps.

  • It is my understanding that the colors represented in the color picker are from an independent company that does testing on fixtures.  and since RGB are the primary colors and needed to mix the rest of them, in additive color mixing, there is no other way to use Hue/Saturation color mixing.(Which is how the color picker works)  before we went to LED cyc lights we had pretty good results with RGB gel, though depending on your needs i would experiment with which blue works best for you...and the other colors as well,  for that matter.
