mark or capture?

dear forum

a colleague of mine is having issues running his show and has said that channels seem to be getting captured and that they are being displayed purple or magenta, i have looked at the show file via off line editor and can see no "m" to indicate a mark and my colleague assures me that no channels have been captured

however the issue persists

any immediate theories as to why?
greatest thanks

JJ

  • magenta colors mean tracked values. if your colleague is not familiar with tracking, maybe he could switch his console to Cue Only mode? Display > Setup > Desk > Record Defaults > Track and make sure it says "Cue Only Mode".

  • Magenta indicates a tracked value.  The magenta channel(s) would have received a move instruction (level up in blue or level down in green) from a previous cue, and then will stay that way (in magenta) until it's next move instruction.  If the desire was to have the channels out in subsequent cues, then that would need recorded in the first cue in which you desire the channels to go out.  They will then stay out until told to turn on again in another cue, and remain at that new level until a different move instruction is given.  Essentially, the desk doesn't presume that you want the channels out just because no levels are recorded into the cues.  The desk presumes you want the levels to stay exactly where you recorded them, until you change them to a new level and record that cue.

Is your colleague familiar with the tracking concept?

  • just awaiting a response, he is understandably busy..

have the show file up on the off line editor and note "L" in the flags window which i have not seen before

    perhaps in an addendum...

he has reloaded the cues and groups into a new show file and says it seems to be running fine so digitals x'd

  • The L means that there is a NIP moving while the light is fading.  Either because it has not marked or because it is moving on purpose.  The question is are you seeing any M or pluses in the M column.  I believe by default auto mark is disabled with a new show file.  Enabling Auto Mark it will place a mark on all fixtures.

  • no... i looked for the "M" or plus sign and saw none via off-line editor...

    Auto mark off

    cue only

    channels getting captured and held...

    meh

  • seeing an R in the flags window

    reference mark>?

  • Even in cue only the show information Tracks.  Cue only s a record function that allows you to NOT track when recording or updating.  Nothing is captured it is tracking

The R means it can be used as a Reference to Mark a cue.  If there is an absence of M then nothing is Marking.  I suggest having your friend watch bobblehead fred.

Might help explain to him Why Did My Console Do That.

  • Oh and if there is a channel the is captured( it is a fucntion of the desk to do this)  it would have a yellow "c" in the tombstone.

    EDIT

Oh and if there is a channel THAT is captured( it is a function of the desk to do this) it would have a yellow "c" in the tombstone.

  • thanks all

its kinda hard work problem solving off-site like this he has struggled through and shut down so we will look at it in the morning

really appreciate you all taking the time,

i will update the forum with any developments, hopefully it isn't something basic and fundamental...
