Ion scrambled patch issue

When this first happened I thought it was operator error but it has happened MULTIPLE times after careful saves. What's more is that while working with a tour at a different theater on their touring Ion, they had the SAME issue. I can't write it up as operator error anymore

For the last few months, I have had problems with circuits jumping patch. That is to say, I enter the patch, go back over to live and things work fine- for a while- but then I will shut down the console, or just walk away for a bit (yes, I save the show file) and when I come back circuits will have jumped patch, or scrambled themselves. Anything Goes was in Memphis last week and were having issues with their moving lights. On load out, the head elec came to me to say that the issues he was having at load in were also scrambled patch issues. This is a tough one since it's easy to point fingers and say that it's operator error, but when everything works the day before and you start up the console and things have moved, or go to lunch and find out as show is starting that house lights now include the decoration lights and hall lights and you can't take everything out otherwise someone will get hurt- it's a pretty serious issue.

I also have two fader wings (this works best for our theater- don't judge) on start up pre-programmed subs will jump from one fader wing to the opposite.

WHAT is going on? Help anyone?

  • Stephanie,

I'm sure someone from ETC will chime in with a suggestion, but the first thing I would do is to save the console logs (exit the Eos application to the shell, click on the Settings button, then Maintenance button, then "save Logs..." button.  Plug in a flash drive and the console will save a .zip file to it with files that ETC can use to diagnose the problem.

You can also open the .zip file and look at the log files in a text editor to see for yourself what the console and operator were doing.

Are you only using one console or are there multiple devices in the system?  Some more information (like console type and software version) would also help.

I can't help with the fader wing issue as I haven't ever use two at once.  If you are using an Ion, are they attached directly to the console or via a USB cable?

  • Thanks Todd.  Stephanie, you can send the logs to eos@etcconnect.com?  We need to know the time/date that you noticed an issue - and what channels are involved.

When you say the content on the wings jumps.... do they "swap" or does one wing start doing what the other one was doing?  The information Todd requested would be helpful.   But you might find faster solutions by calling tech serve.  Since neither of these issues have been reported by others, a verbal discussion might result in more rapid troubleshooting.  Tech serve will need to know the software version you are running.

    Thanks much!
