How to make a "universal" palette or preset?

You want to make it a 'By-Type' palette. You can either make a whole palette By-Type or select individual channels.

Go to say Blind Color Palettes, select the palette, so [Color Palette] 1 {By Type} [Enter] that will set the whole palette to By-Type. Alternatively, you can hit the edit softkey and then select a channel. So Channel 1 {By Type} [Enter]. By-Type palettes will then be available to every channel with that fixture type.

You can't do this for Presets because they could require a reference to a palette underneath to also be present.
