how do I do a slow upgrade when other users are involved?

Running Ion 1024.  I have 1 in each of 2 venues.  Also have an RVI (rarely used) and a RFR.

I prefer to upgrade a console, spend some time on it, make notes and print out "here's what has changed" for the other Lx operators at my venue, before throwing them into the upgrade cold. (I'm not on shift when they come face to face with the upgrade for the first time).

Other than uploading 2.0, playing with it, and then installing 1.9.12 afterwards, each time, is there a better way to manage the transition?

How do other venues do it?  Read the manual before installing the software?

Thanks.

At the theater I work at, we just throw people into an upgrade cold. The basics of 2.0 with conventional and movers are close enough to 1.9.12 that they should have no problems with transitioning.

  • I have been Beta testing in my room and talking with the operator in the other room during the process.  He knows that I will be upgrading his software this week, I will provide him with a printed manual, release notes, facepanel shortcuts and console shortcuts when I do the upgrade.  I agree that any operator should be able to transition without any problems.

  • as there are almost no functions that are changed, but only ones that are added or extended, i consider the water not to be too cold and some operators need to be thrown in sometimes to keep them on their toes ;) so i agree. upgrade and give them access to the new 2.0 manual as pdf so they can search it and help themselves before they come to you.

  • I'm with the others, upgrade 'cause you really do want Magic Sheets and let them figure it out the other changes.  Other then Shift - Clear now working, as well as the Magic Sheet and the RDM and CEM3 stuff, the console functions the same.  RTFM folks !, is something I've been know to say.

I would spend as much time as you can in the OLE working with the Magic Sheets, so that you have a pretty good handle on them, before throwing the other operators in cold on that change !.
