Capture Mode

Sometimes it becomes necessary to bring up channels manually and want to have them stay there even though cues are running.  Right now if you make some parameters of a channel manual and deselect that channel, then run cues in which that cue is programmed into OR hit the Stop/Back button on cues in a cuelist that the channel is NOT programmed into, the manual value will clear itself.

The only way, right now, to circumvent this, is to select that channel and Capture it using the capture function (correct?).  Very rarely or at all would I want a channel that I have manual values for, pop into the cues I'm running until I decide I'm ready to 'release' it and Sneak+Enter it back into playing it's cues.

The reason why Capture wont work for me, is while I'm running cues on a show and trying to make level adjustments, and then I need to continue running cues, but now I need to update those level adjustments into a cue that has already passed and now all those manual values have released because ooooooh I forgot to hit Capture on all those channels, yeah, boo.

I propose a console wide Capture Mode, perhaps denoted at the top of the screen somewhere, that would be selectable through some crafty command line syntax involving the Capture button OR a show setup function at the CIA.

  • There is a capture latch feature in Eos that is system wide. Press the cature button twice from an empty command line and it will display [capture enable], then press enter to enable capture latch. The LED on your capture button will now turn on, and cues will no longer steal back manual channels, you must always sneak them back. To disable it, press capture twice again, and the LED will turn off.

There is a problem with sneak in this scenario though, [Sneak enter] without a channel list, does not sneak captured channels. This makes [sneak enter] not useful with capture latch on because all manual channels are captured. Any channel list will get around this though, so [1 > 500 sneak enter] would sneak channels 1 > 500 even if they were captured. [-1 sneak enter] would sneak everything but channel 1.

  • Currently Capture Enable Mode or whatever (Capture Capture Enter) does not remember that preference when you close and then reopen a show file.
  • Hey Jason... that would be because it is a front panel state, and front panel states are maintained in persistent storage, but not included in the show file.   Although it could be added.  Do you typically keep the desk in this mode the whole time???

     Thanks!

  • Yes the whole time :-)  The first thing I have to remember to do when ever I load a show is to turn that on and to hit Update and Select Make Absolute in the Update options.  (made that mistake twice today, forgot to set it, arrrrggggghhhhhh).  Hard to remember in the morning.
  • 1st Heres a dumb ???

So How do I set up a sub that won't be captured if say i go.  Sub 7 is up for the conduct spec.  we are building cues and the LD says goto black out. first thing i do is select active out. I found today that When i do this the fader stays up but the int goes out.  Sub set as Add. i-mstr, HTP, Exclusive.

Someone just told me about using Select Man. instead.  Guess I just have to get use to programing with Capture

    Thanks

  • I may be mistaken, but I thought setting a sub to exclusive would get you around this.  Or does exclusive just exclude the chans in the sub from being stolen by cue lists.

Another thought... could you park the conductor spec for rehearsals?
