importing ASCII & Losing MS

ok like today- i have my Ballet loaded in. i patch my overheads in LW-load the eos with ASCII file, start focus-go back to LW add ladders, cages, etc in LW-then import once again  (again update ASCII), -Shazzam-Magic Sheet GONE...had to import MS from another show file once again.

  • With an import you are replacing all the information within the .esf. So you'll need to merge in the MS after the import, or save the ASCII import as a new esf, open the old .esf with your MS and any other information (groups, palettes etc etc) and then merge in the patch information from the saved ASCII .esf.

  • I have a folder called "Save and Merge" for data I need to import and then save as .esf.  I'll do as many imports and saves to that as needed, then simply Merge the new patch to the master file (that has the Magic Sheet, as example).

For the situation you describe though, I usually am just doing the new patching from the RRFU or laptop in Client, then simply logging the same info in LW.  I generally don't bother try to reconcile the LW and console.  The console is the "real" info with the LW/VW data just record keeping.

As to your FB question, I think you are desiring that an Import not be an over-write of the file.  I think you (and I can see the point) would like the ability to bring in patch data from an "outside the .esf enviroment", without resorting to the overwrite.

In operation though, the save as .esf then merge works currently and is merely a few extra steps to be aware of.

  • Thanks Steve-this helps. also yes, would love to see an import without overwrite.

SideBar- is there a way to reverese the Electrics in a Magic Sheet? what i mean is , i would like to take all my overheads i just created & reverse the whole drawing whereas i am looking at it from the Audience & not from the stage. is this feature implemented somewhere? thank you

  • I do not believe a mirror or flip command is in place (yet?), though I have many times wished there was!

The only work around I could recommend is grouping the MS elements you want to flip, and then rotate the group as a whole.

Edit - never mind - see here for a more complete answer: http://community.etcconnect.com/forums/p/11789/46479.aspx#46479
