Custom fixtures with custom curves...

This may be a feature request but here's my situation.

I have a custom fixture (a LED spacelight) with 3 separate intensity channels and if you dim to below 30% the fixture will turn off.

At the moment I have created a custom curve that jumps to the 30% dmx value on the patched fixture at 1% to accommodate this.  Is there a way to make a custom curve a part of the fixture profile so I do not have to take the extra step in programming to add that curve?

I've tried playing with ranges, and if the fixture only had one intensity channel that would do it for me, but since there are 3 intensities the editor doesn't treat the custom ranges in the same way as if it has one channel, the automatic virtual master intensity messes it all up, and I can;t edit the ranges of the virtual master either.

Am I making any sense?

  • That's not quite what I'm looking to do. You see I'm trying to create a profile for the fixture that goes from 0-100 where 1% is the lowest value before it shuts off.

The Crux of the issue is that since the fixture is a multi intensity fixture I can't set the curve of the master intensity since it is only a virtual pram, and can't really be edited. My band-aid fix was to make a custom dimmer curve. But thinking about it it seems really silly to have to do this two step process when patching a fixture, I'd love to be able to bundle a dimmer curve profile with the custom fixture, since this dimmer curve is unique to the specific fixture.

  • Did you try setting the Home value in the patch editor to 30?  I tried it and if I set the main INT of the fixture to 01% I get a DMX value of 32 on my first intensity and 02 on my second in the about screen.   Maybe?

EDIT - Actually I'm a little bit wrong about this.  Played a bit more this morning.  I think it kinda depends on how you want these things to respond.

So the first INT - the DMX range is 30 to 255 and the home value is 30

The 2nd INT - the DMX range is 30 to 255 and the home value is 255

The 3rd INT is normal - 0 to 255 and home value 255

The first INT seems a little buggy.  You have to manually turn it on to get it to play correctly.  If you just control the master it doesn't ever move.  Turn it to Full though and it works as expected.

The 2nd INT seems to fit the bill.
