So page 44 of the ION manual talks about the Time Line view of the Play Back Status. I have a feeling that this is a carry over form the EOS manual, but I would like to, if possible, put my ION into this view. Is this possible?

The timeline view was actually removed entirely from the Eos/Ion software. We determined that is was not providing the information that our users actually needed, and, at times, was quite confusing.
Some time in the future, we intend to implement a new timeline feature which will include editing features as well as playback status information.
Sorry about the confusion in the manual. The removal of the timeline was a last minute decision just before the 1.3 version of the software and Ion were released, so that particular change didn't make it into the current shipping version of the manual.
