ION & SGM Giotto 400 Spot

Hi Folks,

I'm having a problem with my Ion driving a Giotto spot light. (First time trying to use them on my desk).

I can control the fixture correctly but can't keep the thing on! Go into Lamp control, Lamp on, Light strikes up then after about 20s the lamp goes out. Resend lamp on and........ around the loop I go.

If I drive the fixture from a laptop, I have no problems.

Will upgrade OS & Fixtures library next time I'm in to see if any improvement, and will put a DMX tester on the desk output to monitor  fixture channel 18, (dmx remote lamp strike & reset) I believe  that the Giotto 'lamp off' is any dmx value between 0-60, 'lamp on' dmx value 130-179.

Does the Ion desk / software, return the dmx channel 18 to zero after a period of time, hence turning the fixture off?

I guess the quick fix will be to disable the remote lamp on /off on the fixture, but interested as to what's causing my problem.

Many thanks
regards

John Mac.

  • What software version are you currently running on your Ion?

The fixture profile has a default Home value of 127 for the Lamp Control parameter of the SGM Giotto 400 Spot M16 fixture profile.  That value is in the range of what they call Hysteresis.

From my testing in the lab, we send the a proper  value to strike the lamp for 12secs and then it goes to the correct home value of 127.  I am not seeing anything that looks like the console would send the off command.

Did you edit the profile and accidentally change the Home value or is there another channel patched to the same value?

  • Hi Steven,

Thanks very much for your helpful reply, It will be a week before I get back to the desk, I think I'm running V1.9. ?, and I think the fixture library is of a similar age. Have down-loaded V1.2.0.1 and latest fixture library & will load up on Sunday.

Had forgotten possibility of  a random patch affecting fixture, so will double check. (Ion used in a college, so quite possible that some ones not knowing what they've done)....

Home value in Hysteres band  is fine, Lamp on instruction sent,  is the instruction dwelled 'timed'?
if so does it go back to 'home' Hysteresis value, or something else (if it goes back to 0, it will turn lamp off)?

Once again many thanks for taking the trouble to look at my problem

    Regards

    John Mac.

  • The profile is always outputting a value of 127 for the Lamp Controls address that is in the Hysteresis range.  When you fire the Lamp On command, it outputs a value of 154 for 12 secs and then goes back to outputting 127.

There is a chance that the fixture profile you have in that version was incorrect has been updated since then.

Also, you only need to install the new Eos version of 2.0.1.  That will include all of the fixture library updates as well.
