Magic Sheets

Working for the first time creating a Magic Sheet.  So far I can't figure out how to align.  The instructions are very clear however when a group of objects are selected that I just created using Create Array the only thing that does anything when I click on it is Align Bottom, Middle or Top and that only causes one of the objects to show and only for the first click.  When I click another type of alignment nothing happens.  When I delete those objects and recreate them the same way none of the Distributes do anything nor does the Align rotation.  Must be something I am missing.

I also see there are a lot of ETC fixtures to use and then a generic moving wash and a generic moving spot.  It does get a little frustrating when everything is ETC.  Training videos always refer to other ETC consoles and how the newer ones differ, which does no good for everyone who used other consoles then switched to an ETC for the first time.  Here is a similar situation.  Not everyone uses ETC for everything.  There are other fixtures out there besides Revolution.  Again, frustrating.

So do we use the generics for everything else besides ETC fixtures?  Won't be able to quickly create SVG;s for all my fixture types.

Align tools will help you to bring scattered objects to one line, be it vertical or horizontal. If you use the create array function, then by definition they are already aligned. Depending on the sequence of align commands, you will end up with all the objects on top of each other.

To test the align function, you would better manually add some randomly placed symbols.

Regarding the symbols. To be honest, I don't quite see the problem. Of course it would be cool to have more symbols, but would you expect an icon as a perfect CAD representation for every light out there? I mean, S4 or another ellipsodial, they basically look the same (ok, not a pacific ;) ). And it's not too hard to create your own symbols. Inkscape can even import some formats, and in the etc wiki there is an excellent entry by Chris, how to make your own symbols with working outline and fill color.
