PI Engineering X-Keys

Hi there,

Long time reader, first time to post...

My x-keys are programmed for macros 701-715, but while moving them to a new console, they started acting strange. I have used them on a few other consoles with no problems. It is basically now just selecting ch.4701 (almost like it is not retaining the shift command)... Is this something within the console that I would need to check? Would appreciate the help

  • this happens when on an external keyboard (a regular qwerty one, not the x-keys) the scroll lock button is pressed. usually to press the Macro button, you use Ctrl-4, but when scroll lock is pressed, the console lets you spell commands and in this case the Ctrl key is ignored. that's why you end up with a plain 4, followed by the macro number, hence 4701.

so, plug an external keyboard, press Scroll Lock, unplug and then try the xkeys again.

NB: the scroll lock button on the facepanel of your console is not the same as the one on the external keyboard.

  • Another question... I've seen X-keys 16-button sticks set up in a way that buttons 2-16 act as the first set of Marcos and the first buttons acts as a sort of shift, enabling the last 15 buttons to act as a new set of macros... Basically doubling the use of the keys. Any thoughts on how to program this. Does it make sense?

  • isn't this a function of MacroWorks to assign a Shift-function to one of the buttons?
