Converting scroller data from Obsession 600 to Ion

OK this is just brainstorming, but how bout this:

Your imported scroller channels are patched as Dimmers.  In Patch, change the Address Type to whatever scroller you have. Then Move those channels into the Part twos of the fixture channels.  Which I don't know how to do but I think it's possible.  Help anyone?

Brent Smith's suggestion sounds fantastic!  So much so I played around on the offline editor to see if it would work.

Unfortunatly, if you go to patch and change the type of fixture to a scroller, the data doesn't transfer with it.  As far as I can tell, the intensity data is stored in the cues as intensity data, and by changing the channel to be a scroller, all that happens is scroller parameters are added to the existing channels, and the data remains in the intensity parameter.  I also tried copying the intensity values into the scroller values (eg: 101 {intensity} [copy to] 101 {scroller} but the desk didn't like that very much.

Also, scroller data is displayed as 0 > 255, not 0 > 100.  As far as I can tell, you have two main options.

1 - Leave your scrollers as intensity channels and run them that way

2 - Go through each show and see what values the scroller ch's are in each cue and transfer them across to the scr parameters of the ch's you want them to be.  An excel spreadsheet may help with this.  Q's on the y axis and scr ch's on the x axis.  The way I'd set out the ch's would be have a column for each ch and another column next to it for the DMX value.  Enter the original value in (0 > 100) and in the new scr column have a formula "=((original_ch_value_cell)/100)*255)"  This should then give you the DMX value that is equivalent to the percentage value.

I hope that all makes sense.  I do realise it is very dull and boring but it's the only way I can see you being able to convert the ints into scr parameters.

On a wishlist note, there is a feature on the strand 500's called automod, by which you can copy the data from any parameter to any other parameter.  Something like that would be perfect for this situation

That's a good idead to be able to use [chan 1 intensity CopyTo Chan 2 scroller] or something similar to copy from one parameter type to another. Currently, it isn't possible though.

 For your case Malcom, of importing the Obsession file, the easiest way is make the channels scroller channels in Obsession and then export the file to Ascii again.

To do this, go into the scroller setup screen in Obsession, [Setup, 14, 1]. Then for each scroller type [X Intensity Y Enter], where X is the channel number of the scroller, and Y is the channel number of that scrollers intensity. Then export the file to Ascii again. When Eos reads this file, it will move your scroller channels into the scroller parameter of its intensity channel, including all of the levels in your cues.

There is a defect though, where the scroller channel in the Obsession file must be patched to a dimmer though for Eos to read it. The dimmer for the scroller is displayed in that same Obsession scroller screen though, so if you don't see one there, give it one.
