2 questions for Ion Uses.. Finding if a channel is used and taking everything to half

Dear Ion Users,

I have 2 questions that I have not been able to find easy answers to.  I am new to using computer boards and am just a little frustrated with entering cues digitally vs analog using actual physical faders.  Needless to say, I set many levels using the wheel.

So, here are my questions.

1. Often, I need to know if I have used a particular channel in any of the cues that I have written. Short of executing every cue and watching a particular channel on the display, how can I quickly determine if I have used a channel in any of the cues I have written?

2. This seems like such a stupid question, I almost hate to ask it but I just can't figure it out.  I have set 10-15 levels and various channels.  I want to take the whole look down by say 50%.  In an analog world, I would just take the master down to half and that would be that.  How do I do this on the Ion? The only way I currently know is to individually take each channel down. See what I mean. This should be so easy to figure out and I am stumped.

Thanks in advance for any help or guffaws I am about to receive.

  • thanks for the new word guffaw in my vocabulary :) looked up (but of course didn't do it).

EDIT: sk8rs_dad beat me to it, sorry for any redundant information

1: eos-family consoles have several ways to achieve that: one is About. it has a dedicated key. press it and you will see it populate the CIA. now select the channel you are wondering about, click on the tile {Usage} and the console will list if it has been used in any cues (if any). the other way would be Group Cue 1 Thru Enter (or whatever your first cue is). the desk will insert the last cue by itself and select all channels that have any intensity value > 0 or any Non-Intensity-Parameter. so whatever is not selected now has never been used.

2: the fastest way to select everything that has output right now is SelectActive, that doesn't have a dedicated key on the Ion. to get to it use Shift+SelectLast and then press the Softkey {SelectActive} and after that add "@ / 50 Enter".

    does that help?

  • Hm. I love these answers but I haven't been able to accomplish either of them. I can certainly find the "About" key, but for the life of me I haven't found where "usage" is located?  Help!

The other thing I couldn't find was a shift key.  Do I need to attach a keyboard in order to do shift+SelectLast?

    Thanks for all your patience.

  • hey lance.

well, that brings me to the question, what software version you have. some years ago, new keycaps were introduced. in the beginning there were flat keycaps, then there were the rounded ones and maybe two years ago, they introduced the Shift key. it's supposed to be located right of the Go button after the gap.

to find out what software version you're using: with an empty command line press [About]. next to the Ion logo there should be something like "Version: 2.0.1" and in the next line something like "2.0.1.9.0.41" (which would be the most recent released version).
