Feature Request-

I've been thinking about how the ION console can be used for one of our clients, and for a busking type show.  It would be really useful to be able to assign fade times to the various Palette functions (on an individual palette basis, rather than all default to this time)  or to the Preset option for multi-parameter fixtures.  Say, I build my look with an automated fixture and type in Record Focus Palette 1 Time 5, and now Focus palette 1 would always move in 5 seconds.  This would allow one to create various lighting looks that can crossfade live, without necessarily having to build cues or submasters.  If using the FP in a cue, it would either take the time assigned to the FP, or allow you to override it with the cue's focus time fade.

Also, I'm not sure if it is possible to assign fade times to non-intensity parameters recorded into a submaster (for use with the bump button toggle when the sub is set as i-master.)  That would also be an alternative to building cues when having to live punt a show with multi parameter fixtures.

Any one else interested in this function?

  • A work around is: "Recall From, Time, XX, Preset XX (a button push on a direct select screen on a touch screen), or use Sneak.

This is also done easily on a Magic Sheet that has the presets as buttons as well as a set of defined macro buttons configured as "Sneak, 2", or "Sneak 5", "Sneak 8", etc...

Without having to get locked in to defined times on the presets or palettes, it lets you quickly choose.

This is how we have our Ion configured and it make the expense of the touch screens worthwhile.

  • Thanks.  I'll give that a try.  Might be able to put your first suggestion into a macro entirely, making it a one button hit.

My thought is that this would be an option for pure punt shows, and not for programming purposes, so having defined times would be possibly preferred.

Setup an array of palettes with however many speeds you want (Red 1s, Red 2s, Red 5s, etc.) and lay it out on a magic sheet.   Your suggestion might make that possible with macros.  I'll give it a shot.

    Thanks again.

  • I use macros to change the category fade times in setup. Works like a charm...

  • It might be personal preference - but once I'm building out an army of pallettes I prefer them to be Macros.   If I put the time in the pallette - I'd end up with 5 instances of "Red" which leads to issues.

One thing I like to do is build them as separate Macro chunks - So your typical Pallete time macro consists of 2 macros - the first calls the color and the second calls the time.   The benefit of this is you can build 5 time Macros- 0, Short, Med, Med Long and Long and build out your combo macros from there.   Now all your times are referenced data - so if your next show needs really long fade times  you can change 1 piece of data and the whole army "updates" itself.
