Ion Time code

Hello,

I am going to be running a light show off an ETC ION for a christmas musical.  The show is very complicated using lot of cues and effects.  In the past I have used 6-8 moving head fixtures along with a bunch of conventional fixtures.  I have always used follow/hang timing in order to get all the cues to fire when they should.  It is tedious and time consuming, but with so few fixtures we have been able to make it work.  This year i am working with 20 moving heads, 24 led panels, and 10 led pars, along with the conventional lights.  Now its become to much to work with follow/hang times.  I am told that I should use MIDI show control, but I have no idea how it works or how to hook it up to make it work.  We have a "Net3 show control gateway" which has never been used.

If someone could tell me the actual process of getting the gateway hooked upped to the ion and how to make cues fire to the timecode etc, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

  • If you are only triggering lights you can use the internal SMPTE clock to run your show and use MIDI to trigger the music. We have not yet used an external SMPTE clock in our applications but know it can be down with relative ease.

These posts might help you down the right path.  We have found it to be quite simple.  Remember when editing triggers in SMPTE on sec is not 1 it is 30 frames.

ETC tech services can also help you with a solution and the steps you need to take.  I would call them if you get stuck.
