Patching DMX fixtures

Hello All.

We have a very old dimmer and we are trying to run some intelligent fixtures through port 2 on the Ion console.

Port 1 is being used by a Language protocol converter and we like i said are trying to use port 2 for the lights.

I am trying to use 4 Mac 250 Entour and 8 Chauvet Colorblast. I read the user manual, watched the videos and I am still not able to get anything to the intelligent fixtures. I have used a 5 to 3 pin flip and checked it on another console that we have and everything works fine I just can't make the ion work. Any suggestions as to what I need or should do? It hasn't been very long since I have been using the console either so it might just be something silly that I am doing.

Thanks in Advance!!

  • It sounds like you have patching issues.

Occasionally the protocol converter has a throughput you can use - one of the more common ones needs this through to be enabled. Depending on your dimmer location and converter location this might be an easier option for you.

Port 2 defaults to the second universe - you can either add 512 to the address on the fixture for the patch, or use 2/[DMX address] for the second port, assuming it hasn't been reassigned.

It sounds like you can put everything in a single universe - so a third option would be to reassign the second port as a duplicate of port 1. You can check, or change, the port setting by exiting the console software and choosing setup - input/output options. Port 1 is usually set to 1, port 2 normally is 513. To duplicate port 2 as 1, change the second port entry to 1, and click on accept. It will likely suggest a reboot.

Hope one of these options sorts you out.
