Update Preset with Make Null

Greetings,

We have presets where we don't want INTENSITY recorded in.  If these are edited in a cue and then the designer wants the preset updated, they likely will now have INTENSITY attached to them.  Does anyone know the syntax to update the preset less an attribute such as INTENSITY.  I tried, UPDATE PRESET X INTENSITY MAKE NULL, but this is not valid.  I know you can edit after the fact in blind or before you record by selecting what you want to include, but a I figured there must be a way to do it as one command string based on excluding.

  • [-] {Intensity} [Update], or {Focus}{Color}{Beam}[Update]

  • If you use UPDATE the intensity will not be added to the preset.  If you want to add information to a preset you have to record it there.  Update should only change existing values in presets not add data to presets unless you specify a preset number when those values are manual.

If you are in a cue and making changes take the time to press UPDATE and look at the CIA.  It will tell you where the data is going to go.  If you want to change where that data is going then you can start adding destinations to the command line but by default update will not add data to a preset/palette target without being told to do so.

If you wish to specify what attributes are updated you can specify category or parameter in the command line.

EX.  501 thru 505 Focus Color Beam update

If you wish to use Make Null for live attributes you need to do that in a command line before you update/record.

ch X Intensity make null enter

    update preset x

There are many ways to reach what you are looking for.  I think that using update in its default behavior is probably the easiest.

I also recommend making a test show file and trying variations on update, record, record only, etc to get a firm grasp of what these do with data.

  • Thanks,

I will have to play with this.  I think our issue is we update by specifying the preset number.

  • Once you get to understand the various update modifiers, you'll find having Update All in setup really useful as it allows you to really quickly update as you're building a show. If you're concerned not to overwrite palettes underneath you can always enable Break Nested which gives you that extra level of protection.

    Dan
