Network Drive for backing up files

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year to all of you. I have a doubt about a Network drive I have installed on my system. I wanted to have a drive where to save my files on the net, that could be accessed by any console on the system.

I have been able to install it, no problem. The thing is everytime I save a show I have to decide either to save it on the harddrive of the main console or in the network drive, since I am just able to create one single path for saving.

Is there any way to create 2 paths for saving, so I can save the showfiles in the main console hard-drive and the network drive a the same time.

Thanks.

  • Hi Juan,

I'm not sure it would work, but its a hack around that may work for your purpose.

I assume your network drive is a PC of sorts, or is it literally a NAS?  If a PC, should be simple enough to map the ION internal drive as a network drive on the PC. Then set the ION default save path to the network drive. Then set a simple sync script (rsync or similar) to run every 5 minutes or so to check the PC drive and copy anything new to the Mapped Ion drive. Your Ion drive would be behind by a few minutes, but it would accomplish what you need without having to double save and your time stamps would line up vs being off by 20 seconds when you double save.

Its just a thought. There may be implications for the almost circular file mapping that I'm not thinking about.

  • Hello Benjamin,

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately the network drive is just a hard disk in the network. I am not quite sure how I could do the sync script you recommend every five minutes.

Maybe the simplest thing is to do a manual back up by Show Folder using the "File Manager" in Settings, at the end of the day. I guess we cannot do any macro for this since we are in "Settings", and also as ueliriegg said, we cannot produce a macro working on the show file since we need to create a folder with a specific name.

    Thanks to all of you.
