currently, the only thing that will write to your tombstone are NonDims, if you use Generic > NonDim.
what you might want to experiment with are magic sheets: there is a tombstone object, and you can write stuff where you want. not with the objects label itself in the Text field, as this is not applicable for a tombstone object, but you can put a text field right next to it. or you go to patch and Label your channels, than you can use the Label field in magic sheets so you don't have to type the name twice...
Hi,
After thinking about it , some more, I came up with this same thought about the magicsheet.
If it cant't be done now, what about be'ing able to be done in the future.
Command syntax could be as follows:-
" [channel] [#] [label] [enter]" would bring up the keyboard, enter the text press return and this would display the text on the tombstone.
This could be useful in displaying focusing info for generics etc.

I used to label channels in patch. I could then see that info in the Direct Selects for channels.
Then they came out with Magic Sheets and once I started using them, I rarely look at the channel tombstones. If you look at some of the MS examples (do a search on this site) you'll see how you can configure the symbols in a MS to show a lot more info then a simple label, including positioning the symbols as a graphical representation of the plot (if desired), to have a colored symbol, to have the gel number, intensity, and a purpose label.
I no longer use channel labels as I can import the purpose and color directly from a Lightwright file, so the data populates the MS automatically as the Text 3 & 4 data columns, which can be added to a MS symbol.
The result was more information better displayed.
