How to trigger cues from Stage Revolve Triggers

Hello all

So i am working on a really interesting project that takes place entirely on a 7m revolve. The set is a sequence of flats that constantly change positions. Often a sequence of scenes happens with the revolved continually moving.

The desire is to be able to track information from the revolve into the EOS / ION to be able to trigger cues and live shutter cut moves on moving lights etc.

Can anyone recommend a good system to communication.

At worst i am thinking that i can noteate the sequence the speed and positions of the revolve for a sequence and then program an internal time code sequence as a complex series of follows etc could be compoundly confusing.

At best i find a method of being able to lock revolve position points to goes in the desk.

Any thoughts would be very welcome

  • The Net3/ACN I/O Gateway could be used for this.

It has 24 inputs that can be used to trigger items in Eos using the Event List (eg Cues or Macros), so you can connect up a series of microswitches that close sequentially as the revolve rotates.

(Think old-school mechanical washing machine program timer.)

  • Hello Richard

    Many Thanks for the response

I think its a great idea. I wonder if there is a way of tapping into the revolves encoder for more accurate feedback.

  • I was just about to ask whether there was an automation system involved, as it seems like there would have to be for any chance of making this happen in a reproducible way.  Can you tell us more about that system so we can figure out options for interfacing with it?

  • Stage Technologies make a product which does this. Its Call F:Light. It was used on Love Never Dies with EOS a few years ago in London.

I basic terms you set a load of points on the F:light system then using a addition to the channels in EOS you tell them which one to track then you could set which point the fixture should point at and follow. I don't how easy it was to program because you need to set both ends up but the end result seemed to work really well.

  • Hello Chaps

    Many thanks for the ideas.

Currently the revolve system is basic but sufficient control not using a computer. It has the ability to be programmed with cues but in a dumb fashion. But i think there must be an encoder involved to give a reading of where the revolve is at any one time.

I looked at the stage tech system and it looks great but it relies on having their system in place already.

Im considering a few options but the first is that i just take a feed from the revolve cue button to a show control gateway which could then a macro to start an internal EOS timecode that would trigger a sequence of cues based on my know led of the timing of the sequence. It just seems like there must be a better way.

In dumb language i want to say run an execute to run a cue when the revolve hits a certain position.

    All the best
