Universal Fader Wing with client software

So, I plugged my 2x10 fader wing to my laptop running the client software (using XP, I know that there are problems with Vista) and it is asking me for the drivers, and cannot find them automatically. I looked in the usb drivers folder in the eos program file, but I assume that those are for the client dongle. Was wondering how to proceed. Thanks!

  • Hi Brian,

    The drivers you discovered *are* in fact the drivers you need to install for your fader wing.  Just point the Windows hardware wizard to that folder and you should be all set.

    I did try that and it didnt work. That is why I assumed the directory was only for the usb client dongle. To be sure, the directory I am using is C:\Program Files\ETC\Eos\USB_Drivers. When I point the computer to this directory, it says: "The hardware cannot be installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software."  Am I in the wrong directory? I am running the latest 1.3.1 software on both master (Ion) and client.

    Hmmm, that is definitely the right directory for the fader wing drivers.  I think it would be best to contact ETC Technical Services...  I'm guessing they will help you find the firmware version on you fader wing, and then verify that those drivers made it into the 1.3.1 installer correctly.  Also, the fader wing only operates on USB 1.0 (officially), so you may need to disable USB 2.0 in BIOS on your PC unfortunately :(

    Ya know...

     

    I was having this same problem today.  Glad to see that I am not the only one.  I wonder if it is laptop specific?  What laptop are you running? 

    I even went into that folder, right clicked on the .inf file that is in there and told the computer to install the file, again to no avail.  

     I did call tech support and they are working on it.  (Thanks, Tracy and Matt!)

     

    I will call them again tomorrow and see what kind of progress they have made.

    After I got your thread, I tried hooking up a USB 1.0 hub to the laptop just to see and I still got the same error. I haven't gone as far as to slow it down via the bios, I will try that tomorrow. 

    To the other person having the same problem... GREAT!!! let me know how it goes! I have a Compaq Presario laptop. Fairly new, Win XP pro, 1gb ram, Dual core 1.6ghz processor.

    Looking forward to hearing from you!

    It seems that the required drivers are not being placed correctly in the installer. If windows recognizes the device and asks for a driver, USB communication is working properly. I'm going to turn the software question back over to the software guys and Tech Services.

    In the mean time, here's a little note regarding USB and the hardware:

    A Fader Wing can operate at USB 2.0 if its by itself. Once you begin to daisy chain wings together is where the High-Speed USB issues start. That's why we specify one wing at a time when used in an off-line/client situation. A full speed hub (USB 1.1) between the computer and wing will slow down communication to full speed standards. - Thats a lot easier than changing BIOS, but you shouldn't need the hub if only using one wing.  All consoles are already set to USB 1.1

    When the device is plugged in, it pops up initially as a "Generic USB Hub", then the windows pops up identifying it as an "ETC Fader Wing Rev B/C".  So, based upon the statements above, I would assume that the laptop is recognizing the device.  However, the Wing still only has "Electronic Theatre Controls" in it's LCD window....

    The software team will be back shortly with a resolution on the driver issue.  However, the very first post here mentions something about "issues with Vista."   It was unclear if this was just a generic Vista comment or a problem with Offline running on Vista.  Because all of our tests here indicate that both Eos Offline and the Client Software Kit run perfectly fine on Vista. So, if anyone is seeing a problem, we surely want to know.

    The Vista comment had to do with the sub wings. I thought I remember reading something in the release notes about the sub wings not working correctly with Vista. I didnt look too closely, perhaps that has been fixed. Sorry for the confusion.

    Ah, no worries.  But basically, if it works on XP, it should work on Vista....
