Chases

Hi

Quite new to the Ion, I have a Variety Show approaching and I need to record some chases up. Not quite sure how to do this, if anybody knows the best way to do this I would be grateful, also is there a away to record the chases onto subs?

  • there are a handful of options:

    - have a seperate cuelist and loop it. it can be triggered ("executed") from your main cuelist or on subs. link all cues with times and link the last cue to the first or use loop. this has been described in your other post.
    - use the effect type "chase"
    - use the effect type "absolute"

i suggest using version 3. it's the most flexible. you write one effect, but this effect has no channel numbers in it. consider it a pattern. to which channels this pattern should be applied, you decide later. version 2 is less flexible in that you already decide in the effect itself, which channels should be part of it. so for every chase that has different channel, you need a new effect. this is not the case with version 3.
version 1 could be the quick and dirty version, but might end up more dirty than quick.

with all three version, you can have subs. for version 2 and 3 change the type of the sub to EffectSub, this is done in the Sub List (Sub Sub).

for more infos esp. on version 2 and 3 i suggest you download the teabreak tutorials and study the respective chapter: http://www.etcconnect.com/support.tutorialseries.aspx?seriesID=18

  • Will give the version 2 and 3 a go and let you know how i get on.

  • Having used other systems, I am asking ETC to include a chase effect that can be done like seperate looks with colour, beam, intensities, etc being able to set as a step. The cue, Link loop thing really is cumbersome. the simplest way, is set a look, save as step one, set a second look, set as step 2...and so on. when done just save as a chase, or effect to be easily recalled either by a sub, direct select or as magic sheet button.

  • Robin,
That is what Absolute Effects do. Record the set looks as Presets. Put the presets in the absolute effect "steps" (actions). Record effect into sub, direct select, macro, cue, etc.
  • Hi abby thanks for responding....I know how to do all that but its cumbersome...It means everytime i want to do a chase I have to save each step as a preset first, then go back and then create a effect. then assign that to a sub or button. a simpler way is...press something to say you are creating a chase. Then set up step one...save . step set up, save and so on....done. Then just assign that right away. if the Chase process in the effects section couls allow that withought having to save as a preset first, then that would be cool. right now the step based effects only allow single parameters, and everything is group based....so in one step i cant have 3 fixuteres at full in red and 1 in blue and cyc in green for example. I have been spoiled by MA and Avo.
