chase effect with acceleration

I'm trying to make a chase effect with the rate accelerating. I'm controlling some generic Versatubes, and the idea has two parts:

The chase is a typical spread chase, but I'm trying to get the effect to begin at one end, and fill the line of Versatubes as they chase towards the other end. I'd like the effect to exit the same way, with the chase progressively going out from one end to the other.

In between the entrance and exit, I'm trying to get the effect to also accelerate in rate progressively in a faded time - say from 100 to 700.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • It's kinda hard to tell exactly the effect you are looking for.

Is it truly spread across a large channel range - like a single chunk of light moving across the tubes?

If so you can build an Absolute Effect with a High step and a low step and make the step times long.  Choose Entry cascade, Fade by rate and Size.

Build your ordered group Left to right or whatever

Cue 1 - Group at effect (Rate 100)

    Cue 2 - Effect Rate 900

    Cue 3 Effect rate 100

    Cue 4 Stop effect

I think you'll find the exit to be disappointing.  I'm not sure there is a great way to do fan the exit like that.

Another option would be a pixel map.  Using a gradient alpha channel layer to mask the entry/exit and the playback speed of the underlying layer to be the rate.
