Single Port Gateway

Hi all

I have just purchased an output expansion and a single port gateway for my ION. I have connected the ION to my network via a POE Switch.

My Issue is as follows, If I open my desk as Primary I am outputting to this gateway as universe 1 and all works fine however I would like to change the gateway to be Universe 3 so It is only added in as required. I have gone back out into the main settings and under Maintenance accessed the GCE,

The GCE however is not discovering my device despite that I know it is there and working having just proved it. How do I get the GCE to see my single port gateway to then edit the functionality.

I have enabled DCHP as recommended in the manual and have worked through steps there but not having much success. Any advice would be gratefully received.

  • Make sure your version of GCE is up to date. Depending on how old the version you have installed it might not detect the Gateway.

It can be downloaded from the link below and installed like a normal software update.

  • I have done this and still had no luck.

I have also had similar issues with trying to connect it to a laptop and also more recently tried to access a 4 port gateway in the GCE and I couldn't see this either.

Clearly I am missing something quite fundemental if anyone could guid me through it I would be grateful. For reference I am running windows 7 and have explored my internet setting. I believed an ETC network would be a simple plug and play system but it seems this is not the case

  • Are the ip settings of the computer  correct? as per this article: http://community.etcconnect.com/wikis/products/knowledgebase-etc-network-ip-addresses.aspx

It sounds like you are seeing absolutely nothing on the network from the laptop, is this correct?

Have you tried using the GCE in the shell on your console?

  • Hi AB,

    A couple things.

I believe (and could very well be be wrong) that depending onwhich 1 port node you are using, you have to change your software. I think the old one port nodes could only be configured via NCE and the new One port nodes can only be configured via Concert.

EDIT: Correcting my info. I was thinking back to when the two port nodes were running different software than the 4 port gateways.

The One Port Gateway setup guide does specifically note that set up for the gateway is via ETC concert.   Looking at the current GCE, it does not support Net 3 Software v 6.0.0, which is the base software of the one port gateway.

Concert can be found at the below link.

To respond to the ETC Plug and play comment. Overall, it is pretty plug and play within ETC controlled hardware. Often problems stem from Windows and personal laptops. As PJ recommended, double check your IP settings on the laptop and also check your firewall settings.

  • Couple notes, GCE (on board the console or on a PC) will work on any NET3 node, (net2 requires NCE) along with Concert (this is designed for larger systems with the Concert server IIRC).  On the note about plug and play, by in large it is just as easy as it sounds.  Most of the troubles in configuring come from firewalls that are enabled on a PC, and the IP settings on the machine.

Here's the ETC wiki on IP's and the ETC network if that helps.
