Ion wish list

Having just had a terrific Ion demo from Micah at the NY office last week, I wanted to add my own thoughts as to functions I would like to see added.

1) Biggie:  Allow Supermasters on submasters, as per the Emphasis system.  With as many as 200+ subs and/or playbacks available, it would make managing the subs easier, especially with complicated looks created on the subs that need to be mastered and easily controlled .  This is an Emphasis function that is extraordinarily useful and would think it I would have been added to Ion and Eos, given the huge numbers of subs available.  Would be useful for playbacks as well....

 2) Color number (L116 as example) on the encoder wheel LCD screen, if the color was picked from a vendor gel selection.  I believe this is planned as an alternative to name.

3) Expandable and docking Direct selects.  Maybe make it across both touch screens if present ?.  Don't allow the direct select screens to be lost when moving around the CIA menus.

4)  Another biggie: Plus percentage and Minus percentage level changes with a Shift plus + or - press.

5) In the OLE, allow a Browse (the PC Hard Drive) function to the Import/Export ASCII functionality.  Currently if you want to import an ASCII file, any file you have or created in another OLE (Expression of Emphasis, Obsession, Showport, etc..) needs to be copied to the Show File Archive folder.  This is counter intuitive to how most Windows folder functions operate.

Thanks for listening, and great work on these consoles BTW.  Now I understand what all the buzz is about, I'm working on the GM now for some end-of-budget-year funds.....

I just wanted to make a quick comment about this... you don't need to copy an ASCII softpatch to the hard drive. If you have it on your USB thumb drive, the console will map it, and you can import from there as long as it has the .asc file extension. I typically will export an ASCII softpatch from Lightwright, but it will not add the file extension automatically, you have to do it when you are naming the file. In windows, you can turn on "show file extensions" if you need to rename the file or change the extension.

  • I am not sure if it has been said but a select active button would be nice.

I currently am working on an Eos and last week at Usitt I worked all week with the Ion in the light lab. For the price it is a powerful board. The only thing i missed was the select active button.
