Opening part of a Show file

I defined a New show and patched my fixtures.  I then saved the show.  My reason for doing this is to give a known starting point for programming a new show - which I expect to do often since this is used for Church Services - without having to re-do the patching each time.  So far so good.

But, then I have some Submasters defined in a previous show that I would like to use in the new one without having to record them all over again. It appeared to me from the description in the manual and from the OPEN FILE screen that I should be able to recall just the Submasters from the previous show.  I clicked on all the elements leaving only the Submaster box in gray but when the the open process had completed I had the Submasters loaded but the Patch was set to the default 1 to 1.  That is not what I expected. 

One thing to note is that the patch is different between the new show and the old one - does this make a difference in how the OPEN processing works in this case?

  • If you want to "add" part of a show to your existing show, use "import" from the browser menu and select submasters. If you are not using import, your existing showdata will be cleared before loading the new data.

    Thanks Dan.  Dale, just a small bit more of explanation.  "Open" functions always assume you want to replace any other existing show data, where "Import" always adds to the show file.  If you want to do a partial import, there are tabs on the front page of the import tool for this.  If you want to do a selective partial import (front page allow import of all of the submasters), press [Advanced].  This will take you to another screen that allows you to specify exactly which subs you want to import, and a means to renumber them is provided if needed.
