Opening part of a Show file

I defined a New show and patched my fixtures.  I then saved the show.  My reason for doing this is to give a known starting point for programming a new show - which I expect to do often since this is used for Church Services - without having to re-do the patching each time.  So far so good.

But, then I have some Submasters defined in a previous show that I would like to use in the new one without having to record them all over again. It appeared to me from the description in the manual and from the OPEN FILE screen that I should be able to recall just the Submasters from the previous show.  I clicked on all the elements leaving only the Submaster box in gray but when the the open process had completed I had the Submasters loaded but the Patch was set to the default 1 to 1.  That is not what I expected.

One thing to note is that the patch is different between the new show and the old one - does this make a difference in how the OPEN processing works in this case?

  • On a related note, I just spent a frantic 15 minutes trying to import part of an Obsession ASCII file from the dance company that we're loading in this morning.  It seems that no matter what parts of the show file you select on the import screen all parts are imported including patch, system settings, everything.  This presented a bit of a problem, as you might imagine.  I repeated this feat 3 times just to make sure it wasn't due to having to be in at 8 this morning.  I discovered that importing the ASCII file and then selectively importing the parts of the Eos file (saved just before trying to import the ASCII show) that we wanted worked just fine.  Not sure if that's supposed to happen, as this was my first time importing ASCII, but it sure doesn't seem like the way it should work...

  • I also have a dance show running on the ion, and have the problem of wanting to keep the patch/submasters stable while importing the next cues. If i use import, I only add them to the current cue list, when what I really want is to replace them on the cue list. I have been having difficulties trying to accomplish this by using open and advanced to paste the next cues over the previous ones. I also am not a fan of having to remap my submasters each time, they are still recorded, but I have been having to reset the mapping and enabling them as subs, and then my inhibitive, exclusive, and independant settings are lost and have to be reset. any better suggestions for loading all these things together?

  • EJ,

I could'nt exactly figure out what your situation is, but it sounds like you want two different shows that are identical except for the cues.

If that's true, then I would use Open instead of Import.  After Show B is opened, then Import everything you need except cues from Show A.

Then, of course save them as complete shows and you won't have to import anything again.

On the other hand, you could use Import from the start by deleteing or clearing the cues from Show A before importing Show B's cues.

    Hope that helps somehow,

    B
