Patch Multiple Channels to Address

Hello - I have a show normally using 5 areas of face light going for ONE DAY into a theatre that will only allow for three areas of face light.  I could easily accommodate this without a lot of reprogramming if I could patch the single address/dimmer that needs to cover both areas 1 and 2 to both channels that normally control these separately in an HTP fashion... PLEASE tell me there is a way to do this on an Element...

Thank you!!

  • Sorry, there isn't. You can patch multiple addresses to one channel but not the other way round...
  • You can however put a channel in multiple submasters and their intensity will be HTP.

You can also "save as" to make a copy of the show file, then repatch. It's pretty quick and practical for a one day event.

  • The repatching approach would only work if I could do more than one channel to the same address - I need to light FEWER areas with the channels I have already programmed...

Not sure how the Sub programming you mentioned would work, without reprogramming the entire show...

Anyway, thanks for the feedback, folks.  Sure would like to see this work right.  The best hack I saw was someone who suggested repatching the channel to the the desired address but routed to universe 2, output from DMX2 on the board, and then use an external merger to merge the address from output2 to the dimmers, which would merge two "channels" into one address in an HTP fashion.

The board should be able to do this with a bit of coaxing and maybe an override or two....... wish list, admins???

  • What type of dimmers do you have. It might be possible to reconfigure the rack to assign the same address to multiple dimmers.

  • Yup, this has come up prior from touring electricians using a plot with a lot of area control and fewer instruments then desired in the house rig.

Then the only solution is to go thru and manually correct, cue by cue, things like Ch 2 now covers Area 1, so that channel needs to be at the same level that Ch 1 was, in the house where we had the full rig.....  It would be easier if you could just patch Ch's 1 AND 2 to the (now) fewer addresses/units covering both area's 1&2.

  • There's been lots of discussion about this in the past.  I believe a way to merge show data from two channels on a HTP basis is on the list.

But for now, it's a manual operation.  I run into the same issue quite often when cutting shows down to tour.
