ION cues

Getting ready for a tour of Godspell. Will be using an ION however setting things up in advance in offline then opening in ION and editing when closer to tech. Here's the question/discussion:

It is a theatre musical which will run cue to cue manually using GO. There are a lot of songs mixed in with dialogue. The cast has been rehearsing out of order, as expected. I know what songs will be used however I don't know the performance during each song. I really can't write cues until I sit with the director and go over the entire show. What I would like to do though is get the songs somewhat ready.

So I was wondering if I created a cue list for each song starting with say cue list 2 and set up each song with cues I feel appropriate, can I then use those cue lists somehow renumbering the cues for the master show cue list 1 thinking I would possibly do a copy to for each cue? Does this mess up tracking?

Also I think that when a sub is recorded into a cue, when the cue is running it shows the channels as yellow that were recorded into the cue using that sub. and editing them is tricky. If I am wrong then that's normal for me, but if I am correct is there a better way to record channels in a cue from a sub or a combination of a sub and manual channels without the sub channels showing as yellow?

Orrr am I off the chart with that one? :-)

  • The biggest thing you're going to struggle with, is as you pointed out, tracking. But you have a couple options. You could program each song in separate cue lists, and simply link the last cue of one cue list to the first cue of the next. You could also copy the cues from each cue list into your main cue list. If you go this route I would highly suggest putting a block on the first cue of each song to make sure nothing tracks strangely.

     

    The other option, that I would probably use, would be to record your "cues" as presets (or if only using conventionals intensity palattes would work as well). Then when you know what order your show will be in recording those presets into cues is trivial work.

    As for your submaster question, values will only appear in yellow when they are actually controlled by the sub. This means that if you bring up as sub (assuming it isn't set to exclusive) and record it into the cue the submaster is no longer the source of those values, and they will have the same color coding as any other channel in a cue (Blue for increased values, Green for decreased, Magenta for tracked values, White for blocked values).
