how to change reference channels for "by type "-palettes?

i guess the easiest would be to edit the old showfile: load it, in Patch: Chan x MoveTo y Enter (where x is the by type channel in the previous showfile and y is the soon to be by type channel in the new showfile). this changes not only the patch but also changes the by type channel in the respective palettes. save this showfile.
now load your new show again and merge.

this should work...

Add your new channel in the old showfile.

Open the color palette list view.  [Color Palette] 1 Thru 1000 Enter  {Edit}    Old channel Copyto New Channel Enter  New Channel number {By Type}

This should change the By Type driver in that range of palettes.    While your editing all those palettes - remove any other channels you don't want merged into your new showfile.

Now you can merge those palettes in with the correct channel.

couldn't load the old show, because it's quite busy on stage right now, and I need to be online with the console.

but the fixture with my old number is not here yet :D so I patched it as my old fixture, merged my palettes and then did the edit.

 

Everything is beautiful now.

I'm trying this with CXI's and can't easily get it to work. This is my first attempt at merging so it's probably operator error, but steps taken were:

1) In new showfile make (599) and make part 2 a CXI and patch the CXI at 2/206 (same address as in old showfile).
2) In old showfile move the by type CXI channel to (599). All CXI's in this file still go to Color Palettes after the move.
3) Open new showfile and advance merge (599) and color palettes. (599) goes into Color Palletes fine.
4) Patch new CXI's to Ch's (61-65). They don't go into the Color Palettes even though Color Palettes are by type and (599) is listed as the by type channel.

What am I doing wrong?

Channel types have to match exactly. All parts and the order of parts, types, modes, everything

I see the issue. Some of my dimmers are set to sensor dimmers, and the others are generic dimmers. Thanks!
