Yes.
A longer answer would require more information about the drum trigger. Can it provide one of the many input triggers the Ion supports?
We would be using a ddrum trigger that I guess would be like a contact closure switch.
It relies on a piezoelectric transducer to send a electric signal.
You will need some sort of signal processing betwixt the transducer and the console to convert the signal to something usable by the console.
You need something even smarter to do anything that is actually useful with the trigger like link a particular drum hit with a particular beat in a bar of music or phrase in a song. A simple trigger won't know anything other than the drum was hit.
Thank you! I will try and go through a drum brain and send a midi signal to the console to trigger the fixtures.
Just to clarify something here--The console cannot take a Midi String or Midi Note signal as an input. We are adding OSC as an input in v2.3 but currently only Midi Note output is supported.

Ok. So the external trigger on the ion is really for something more along the lines of a light switch, or a momentary switch of some kind. We covered the trigger port quickly when I was at ETC in New York, but we never really got in to what it could and could not do. I guess I'll just wait for v2.3 to come out and see where it takes me. Thank you for your time!
You got it--Its truly just a contact closure.
You can use an Arduino Ethernet board for signal processing of the drum trigger, maybe a simple mic from adafruit, and for sending an udp string to control your ion.
sstaub
I'll have to check that out! Thanx!!
